Student Trainee (Visitor Use Assistant-Fee Collector)

Temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year but m ay be extended each year without further competition, if you continue to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available. Interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment. Major Duties:
This position is located within the division of Interpretation and Education at the Little River Canyon National Preserve in Fort Payne, Alabama. As a Visitor Use Assistant, you are responsible for collecting and accounting for appropriate fees at a day use area or visitor contact station. Other duties include giving talks, answering questions, guiding small groups and providing services to visitors. Presenting limited and repetitive pre-established talks. Staff information counter in a visitor contact center. Provide information on a variety of subjects and interpret park values for visitors with varying interests and backgrounds. Provide a wide range of services to park visitors. Orient and explain current park conditions and/or events and warn of safety hazards. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/27/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40
hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
collecting fees, handling cash, checks and accounting for appropriate fees, operating electronic cash registers, giving tours for small groups, clerical responsibilities. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least 4 years above high school. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience first take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
